With the Switch lamp, the Japanese designer Nendo, takes up the figure of the classic abat-jour renewing both the materials and the function. The archetypal shape of the cylindrical lampshade is translated with the use of metal while its switch function is flanked by the switch, 'switch' for the note. The lamp in fact turns on and off by turning the lampshade in sheet metal, inextricably linking form and function, aesthetics and functionality.
